I need feminism because my boyfriend’s (male) best friend accused him of giving me more time than him simply because “SHE HAS A SLIT BETWEEN HER LEGS AND I DON’T” and all my boyfriend could do was gape at his atrocity and apologise to me for that comment.

My boyfriend respected my body. We were together for over a year, but did not have sex, but that is beside the point. The point is that he assumed that we were together just for sex, that even by virtue of being both his best friend and his girlfriend at that time, I did not deserve the time he gave me because I was born with a vagina, that my boyfriend liked spending time with me simply because he hoped to get inside my pants. The point is that no one should be able to say something like that; no one should even be thinking along those lines.

My (now ex) boyfriend is a wonderful person. He never treated me like I was anything but his equal, and respected my privacy and my decisions. He was never controlling or overbearing. Neither did he ever touch me without my consent. I am still friends with him, and if I ever get another man who’s half as nice as him I’ll consider myself lucky. Because there aren’t so many such men in the world.

I need feminism because that comment by our mutual friend degraded both of us. It made it seem like he was an animal who could not control his hormones and I was nothing more than two breasts and a vagina.
